If you own a vacation home or will be away from your home for an extended length of time during the cold months, winterizing is essential to prevent freezing and bursting pipes. If you are leaving your home for an extended period of time in the winter months, be sure to shut off the main water valve and drain the plumbing system by opening the faucets at the highest and lowest points of the home. Make sure the heat is left on and set at 55°F or higher.
